Marcio Diaz
Vigor and Glory
April 28 – May 26, 2007

“Vigor and Glory” is a phrase well known to natives of Nicaragua, as these words were written by the
famous poet Ruben Dario, “Nicaragua is made of vigor and glory”. This accurately defines the culture
and philosophy of Nicaraguan people. Marcio Diaz’s paintings embody this sense of nationalism and tell
a story of a man and his strong ties to both his heritage and country.

Marcio Diaz was born in a small farming community in the northern region of Nicaragua. He studied
painting at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Managua, and also received a BA degree in
architecture. He studied under many great masters from Cuba, Mexico, Italy, Spain and Central
America. He has reached international fame at a young age and continues to grow as an artist while
staying true to his color palette and subject matter. |

His paintings are inviting and charming, portraying many scenes that are taken directly from
memory as Marcio now resides in the Pacific Northwest. These are memories on canvas; their
vibrant and rich colors coupled with the broad and dynamic brushstrokes give an enhanced sense of
nostalgia. They evoke a dream-like quality created from the visions of his youth.
